DENY COMFORT TO THE OPPRESSOR. DEFEND THE POOR AND SICK. DEPOSE THE CAPITALIST OLIGARCHY.

If treatment for gender dysphoria is not considered an essential health benefit, transgender people — including those in job-based private health insurance — could face higher out-of-pocket costs for care that would otherwise be covered.

Sam W: So, Trump intends to visit Canada for the G7 meeting.

Here’s the thing, though — Canada has strict rules about felons entering the country. And the Presidency does not protect Trump, as former President Bush was once forced to request special permission to enter Canada over a DUI from years before.

I would desperately love to see Prime Minister Carney and our legal system stand firm and block Trump’s entry unless he applies for special permission.

I desperately want to see him grit his teeth and rage over being treated like the convicted criminal that he is, and have to face the law like every other person in my country.

Please, Canadian government. Don’t let us down. Remind this fucker that we know exactly who he is, and what he’s done.

jadabird: “Do you want to vent or do you want advice?” Just learning now, after 40 years on earth, that this might be the most important question to ask whenever a friend or loved one is upset.

“I have a lot to learn. I will change. I will grow. I will not stay the same.”

“If you promise to stay alive just a little bit longer, I promise that we are going to make this world a place worth living in, by any means necessary. I ain’t giving up. I swear.”

LocalSoundWave: “Oh no, they hate the X-Men because they’re different. :(” That’s YOU, you dumbass motherfucker. LMAO. Imagine being a bigot and into nerdy shit. Bro, you’re the villain in every story, lmaoooooo.

brendelbored.bsky-social: Someone replied to me bringing up fast food by asking if| knew cooking exists and it’s a joke and totally fine but | want everyone to know that if you’re in a place in life where it’s cheaper to get food that way or if you’ve just worked two shifts, the idea of “cooking” holds no inherent nobility

tkingfisher.com: To reiterate a post from the Other Site, for most of the last four thousand+ years, the vast majority of people living in cities got takeout. Many apartments lacked kitchens due to space and fire risk. Cooking yourself 7 fresh, varied meals a week is a VERY recent expectation.

Communal meals were also standard in a huge number of societies. You are not failing at a normal human task, you are being held to a frankly bizarre new standard. If you eat tortilla chips and salsa while standing over the sink and follow it up with string cheese, you are doing at least as well as an ancient Egyptian laborer, who got flatbread, a beer and an onion every day.

“Field trips are wasted on kids. Imagine getting a whole day off of work and getting to learn how an old watermill from the 1800s works. That’s the dream.”

pugmane: Jedi accountant: “I see here Qui-gon purchased one … boy on Tatooine. Wait, that can’t be right.”

“I am the author of my own story. No matter how difficult life gets I will remember this is just one chapter and I will continue to keep going. I have so much good to do and beautiful places to see. My story isn’t over yet.”

This though: why would rapists bother to pretend to be trans in a culture that treats rapists better than trans women?

“The Trump admin deported three children this weekend who are legal U.S. citizens from an ICE facility in Louisiana. One of those children was a 2-year-old. Another has metastatic cancer and was deported without their medication. If you’re cheering for US.-born children with cancer being deported, ask yourself how it improves your life.”

"It has no greater purpose beyond LOOKING ruthless ... "

AverageSalt_Miner: “There’s something uniquely perverse about cruelty performed by people who will never experience the consequences of their own ideology. Unlike the Somali pirates or the Taliban—groups operating in extreme conditions, driven by survival, ideology, or desperation—the architects of modern American cruelty live in comfort. They do not suffer. They are not struggling for food or security. And yet, they choose cruelty, not as a necessity, but as a luxury.

You have to be invited into my TARDIS, Conrad. To be special. But you? You’re special, for all the wrong reasons. You see, I am fighting a battle on behalf of everyday people… who just want to get through their day, and feel safe, and warm, and fed. And then along comes this… Noise. All day long, this relentless noise. Cowards like you, weaponising lies, taking people’s insecurities and fear, and making it currency. You are exhausting. You stamp on the truth, choke our bandwidth, and shred our patience. Because the only strategy you have is to wear us down. But the thing is, Conrad, I have energy to burn and all the time in the universe.

“Enter Donald J. Trump, two-bit conman, television huckster, a denizen of gaudy casinos and smoke-filled back rooms, who conned himself into the biggest job of all. He is our guide to a new realm you won’t find on any map: a world of his own creation, where words like ‘truth’ and ‘lie’ no longer have meaning, where man’s darkest instincts are given license, and where things like human decency and tolerance are relics of a bygone day. Case in point: Mr. Donald Trump, a man with one foot in his mouth and the other… in the Twilight Zone.” 🔗

Why Gregory Peck Wore His Wife’s Ring on a Chain: After his wife Greta passed away in 2008, Gregory Peck was often seen wearing her wedding ring ona thin gold chain around his neck. “It keeps her close,” he once said. They were married for 48 years. Even in his final roles, he wore it under his costume. For Peck, love didn’t fade with loss—it became quieter, but no less constant. Friends said he touched the ring every morning, like a ritual. 🔗

Carlee Gomes, The Puritanical Eye: Hyper-Mediation, Sex on Film, and the Disavowal of Desire:

“The desire to exclusively engage with media and art made by ‘unproblematic’ artists is a direct result of Americans viewing media consumption as an inherently political act be- cause that is the supreme promise of Western prosperity and the religion of consumeri- sm, and because it’s seemingly all that’s left. We’ve been stripped and socialized out of any real political energy and agency. Our ability to consume is the only thing remaining that’s ‘ours’ in late capitalism, and as a result it’s become a stand-in for (or perhaps the sole defining quality of) every aspect of being alive today – consuming is activism, it’s love, it’s thinking, it’s sex, it’s fill in the blank. When the act of consuming is all you have left and indeed the only thing society tells you is valuable and meaningful, the act must necessarily be a moral one, which is why people send themselves down manic spirals deciding what, who is ‘problematic’ or not, because for us the stakes are that high now. 🔗

ErikUden@mastodon.de: Once libraries are nonexistent any modern fascist movement wouldn’t even have to burn books, but flick one switch and they’d be remotely deleted from your Amazon Kindle or similar digital “library”. Capitalists are already building the infrastructure to do this through DRM, so stop believing tech is apolitical - the defunding of libraries and paywalling of information are all part of this. 🔗

“Federal prosecutors said at trial that former Nevada state lawmaker Michele Fiore, 54, had raised more than $70,000 for the statue of a Las Vegas police officer who was fatally shot in 2014 in the line of duty, but had instead spent some of it on cosmetic surgery, rent and her daughter’s wedding. Trump just pardoned her.” 🔗

Sean West: A Friend Was Offered a Price Menu to Meet Trump and Team. They were holding a conference in Florida and the Trump team proactively reached out, asking if they wanted to make a donation in order to meet the President at Mar-a-Lago.

They declined. Price was not the reason why. If you had the funds, would you pay for such access? Is this a “coin-operated presidency” (as they called it)? 🔗

nycsouthpaw.bsky.social: They’ll never accept it, but everyone who cast a vote for Donald Trump did real, generations-long damage to the United States and the west in exchange for essentially nothing of value. 🔗

existennialmemes: This society could be so, so cool if everything wasn’t run by avaricious, bloodthirsty tyrants. Our technological capacity is at such grotesque odds with the average person’s daily experience. We could eliminate so much suffering, if only our resources were being equitably distributed. But instead robots are plagiarizing artists and writing term papers with imaginary sources. Meanwhile someone who wanted to be a glassblower is having a nervous breakdown because their kitchen is dirty and they’re sick of eating ramen in between fourteen hour shifts at their Real™ Job (Retail Mandatory Standing.) We’re just doing all of this so fucking wrong, all because some guys who are pathologically rich decided this was the only way to have a society. 🔗
