brendelbored.bsky-social: Someone replied to me bringing up fast food by asking if| knew cooking exists and it’s a joke and totally fine but | want everyone to know that if you’re in a place in life where it’s cheaper to get food that way or if you’ve just worked two shifts, the idea of “cooking” holds no inherent nobility
tkingfisher.com: To reiterate a post from the Other Site, for most of the last four thousand+ years, the vast majority of people living in cities got takeout. Many apartments lacked kitchens due to space and fire risk. Cooking yourself 7 fresh, varied meals a week is a VERY recent expectation.
Communal meals were also standard in a huge number of societies. You are not failing at a normal human task, you are being held to a frankly bizarre new standard. If you eat tortilla chips and salsa while standing over the sink and follow it up with string cheese, you are doing at least as well as an ancient Egyptian laborer, who got flatbread, a beer and an onion every day.
